This time last year we were planning our first ever Discovery session, ready to launch in April. We can't believe it has been a year already!
What is Discovery?
SMASH Discovery is a 90 minute workout for your body and mind. We start with a SMASH London class (as always, this will be a surprise!) before moving on to a 10 minute mindfulness meditation. We then finish with a 30 minute workshop designed to discover ways of being stronger and happier in mind.
What will the workout be?
The SMASH London ethos has always been that you will never know what class to expect! We want you to be the strongest and healthiest version of yourself and the best way to do that is to perform the exercises you love...and the ones you don't! It could be the fun of Playground, the strength of High 5, the focus of Agility, the intensity of The Burn. With 18 unique SMASH classes we guarantee that you will always leave the class stronger than when you entered... and isn't that ultimately what it's all about?
How hard is the workout?
Every SMASH London class is suitable for all levels! We will always do our best to encourage, motivate and inspire you to give 100% but there are absolutely NO comparisons in any class. We don't compare ourselves with each other, our past selves or where we hope to be in the future. All we ask is that you give 100% commitment to what you are capable of doing in that moment - you will know what that looks and feels like
Is mindfulness meditation for me?
Mindfulness meditation is for everyone! We have said before that mindfulness has massively changed both of our lives and, without it, there would be no SMASH London! It's 10 minutes of calm to centre your mind and reconnect, with no expectation to achieve anything in particular. You may be surprised at how strong you feel afterwards!
What does the workshop consist of?
The workshop is what makes Discovery the unique class that it is! It's a very relaxed setting and each session has a different focus. We have covered topics including taking yourself out of your comfort zone, managing negative emotions, habits and gratitude. We will normally have some written exercises that remain completely private, unless you wish to share. We will always lead the session, and no one is expected to talk, but we do find that, after the fun of the class and the community feel that SMASH evokes, some people are happy to share their ideas and stories with the rest of the group. However, it's completely up to you how much you want to share with others, if at all. This is your session and we want you to be comfortable enough to get as much from it as possible!
Why should I come to Discovery?
We created SMASH London so that every person in this amazing city could work on their physical and mental health in a fully inclusive, non judgemental and fun setting. We have achieved this with our classes and Discovery is a way to further work on improving mental health and well-being. With no expectation to feel any way, it's an opportunity to spend 30-minutes discovering new ways to be stronger, healthier and happier in body and mind. Life is challenging for all us at times so it's important that we take time to nurture our mind. We can learn to be kind to ourselves and appreciate all of the amazing qualities we have, whilst also being human enough to understand that there will be things we can do better to be stronger and happier.
The best way to discover Discovery is to come along! The price is £10 per person (open to everyone, you do not have to be a member at Fitness First) or you can opt to pay £25 which gives you access to 3 Discovery or SMASHcamp sessions within a one year period. We are also offering a discounted entry fee of £5 for anyone who wants to try their first Discovery session.
