Embrace Your Inner Child

Hi all, Sam here wishing you a happy mid-week!

Anybody that attends SMASH classes know that we love cheesy pop and rock music, we love being silly, dressing up and having as much fun as possible in our workouts!. We believe that the more fun we can make fitness, the less it feels like a "chore" or something that we "have" to do.

Of course there will still be days when it is a struggle to motivate ourselves (that goes for the SMASH team too) but by embracing our inner child we can find the joy in the moment! Taking inspiration from children and play-time has been something SMASH have embraced since we started our classes - originally in the form of our class "playground", designed to replicate the type of games we may have played in school break times. In the online world of SMASH we bring this ethos into some of the class themes, our rule of "if in doubt, dance it out" and in some of the challenges that we set you during the class.

Think of your seven year old self. Luckily, for most of us, childhood was a time where we could be ourselves - we didn't have to pretend to be someone else! We focused on having fun at every available moment and we lived each day as if we knew it was filled with endless opportunity. We learnt from our mistakes but didn't dwell on them, we got excited about events coming up tomorrow but quickly returned to enjoying today! We laughed, cried and loved with all of the potential within us.

There is a quote that has been credited to a few different people over the years with slight variations that is "You’ll worry less about what people think about you when you realise how seldom they do". A similar message to "dance like nobody is watching" tells us to just let loose, to be yourself and to enjoy every moment without feelings of shame or judgement. We, at SMASH say "Dance like EVERYBODY is watching" - you never know how many people you will inspire in the process!

This Saturday we are bringing back superhero SMASH - "the search"! It will be cheesy, it may feel silly, but we love seeing you embrace the cheese and the silliness. Seeing the effort you put in with dressing up for classes like this, and for our dance parties really reminds us that we have the best community in the world! Let's get in touch with our 7 year old selves and go on an adventure... and get sweaty in the process - you won't regret it!

Whatever you choose to do this bank holiday, see if you can channel that inner child into the weekend! Take time out of "adulthood" to dance, sing and play!

We will be sending you our weekly schedule on Sunday but just a reminder that our bank holiday Monday class will be at 10am instead of 6.15pm. The theme this time will be "one hit wonders"!

Also our Tuesday evening will look a little bit different for a while as Sandi and John will be taking a break as they prepare to welcome their little one into the world. We want to just thank them so much for everything they have done for us over the last few months! We have a guest instructor bringing you Tuesday night Yoga for the time being - more information to come this weekend!

Enjoy the sun x
