Be Excellent To Each Other
Good morning lovely SMASH crew!
Sam here wishing you a happy lovely sunny week sending you all of the good vibes and positivity that you may need today!
If you saw our Instagram story or joined my class on Tuesday afternoon you will have seen that I had a very minor (in the grand scheme of things) negative experience pre-class, where I stepped out for a run and had abuse shouted at me by a group of lads driving (slowly) past in a car. It was a completely ridiculous thing and something that meant I just had to turn up the volume of my internal positive voice to counteract what they had said - much like I need to do for myself on days when I'm feeling a little more fragile!
The reason I shared this with the community and with our Instagram followers is partly to get it out of my head as there is no space there for it to stay! But mostly it was the instant feeling that I wanted to share my experience with this amazing 'family' that we have created in the SMASH community. I wanted to remind ANYBODY that is targeted with verbal or even physical abuse that you are frikkin awesome, valid, welcomed and loved as you are no matter what journey you are on and you will still be frikkin awesome, valid, welcomed and loved if you discover that the truer version of you is any different to what that is right now.
Many of the podcasts and books I have been learning from over this past year have reminded me and re-confirmed a few things. Stripped back we are all 'just' humans, we are all unique, individual, amazing and have a place on this earth. If we can be excellent to each other no matter what, the world would be a much, much better place. For each of us able to receive this email we already have so many more privileges than others in the world who, for example do not have access to technology as we do. Unfortunately there are people that use this privilege to spread hate or propaganda but we can at least try to counteract that by speaking up, by challenging 'popular' opinion, by educating ourselves, by really listening to each other and by spreading as much kindness, love and positivity as we can.
The amount of love and support I received from our amazing community once I posted on Instagram was beautiful. I know that I am so lucky as an individual to be able to share in this space and feel completely safe and loved and I truly hope that we can make the space that is the SMASH community feel safe for you all too.
As always you know that you are welcome to chat to us privately if you do need a rant, a distraction or a reminder of how gorgeous you are. Do not hesitate to just ask!
