Joining SMASH class in-person

Any training regime carries with it potential risks and we would like to make sure you are as safe as possible. The following applies to our spin classes as well as our outdoor group training.

  • Our classes aim to strengthen your mental health as much as physical. There is never any pressure or expectations from us, we want to encourage you to always listen to your body and do what you can. We want you to find the joy in what your body can do rather than focusing on what you feel like you should do.

  • Within our in-person classes, there are 3 main suggestions to have the best workout.

    • Rest whenever you need to - this is so important, especially if you are increasing how often you are exercising.

    • Adapt a move if you don’t know how to do it, don’t understand our explanation or if you prefer to do a different move - always work with what feels right for your body.

    • Offer kindness, non-judgement and encouragement to yourself and others.

  • If you do have any injuries or illnesses, or if you are pregnant, please let us know in advance so that we can give you suggestions for how to adapt your workout. We have participants with different abilities and limitations so want to make sure you have the best workout that you can have.

  • Please aim to arrive at least 5 minutes early to our in-person sessions and even longer if you have not attended one of our sessions before. If you are unable to attend a session please aim to cancel your booking with 24 hrs notice or let one of the SMASH team know as soon as you can to allow somebody from the reserve list to attend.

  • Anybody who has attended any of our classes know that we focus on fun, functional training and variety. We will never tell you to log calories, to work harder than you can or to compare yourselves to anybody else. We add an aspect of mindfulness to each class so that you leave every class feeling stronger in body and mind.

  • New to exercise? Great! Thank you for trying us out - as mentioned above, when you increase how much you exercise there are many potential benefits but also potential risks. If you are unsure we would always recommend speaking with your GP.

OUTDOOR TRAINING

  • If we are forced to cancel due to adverse weather conditions we will automatically give you a credit to book another class of the same type unless a refund is specifically requested.

  • We will undertake our own risk assessment for outdoor training but there is always potential of unforeseen interruption when using any public space so please bear with us if we need to manage this within the session.

  • Please come dressed for the weather, bringing sunscreen, water and a sweat towel.

SPIN

  • We currently hire the spin studio within a Fitness First. As it is a private hire you do not need to be a member, however there are certain points to be aware of.

    • Upon entering the gym, let reception know that you are here for the SMASH spin class. They will ask you to sign in and while Covid-19 restrictions are in place they may require some additional information.

    • Use of the gym facilities other than changing rooms and spin studio is not permitted. If you arrive before the SMASH instructor you may be asked by staff to wait outside or in the spin studio to avoid any congregation in the main gym area.

    • We are not in control over the changing spaces but if there are any questions or concerns about the facilities please let us know and we will do our best to help.

    • Please bring a padlock for your personal belongings. Towels are available for a £1 hire.

    • Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, towels and personal belongings are not allowed within the studio. We like to use wrist and head bands to pretend it’s the 80s!

    • Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Spin is one of our more intense classes so always listen to what your body needs, even if that means taking it down to a gentle cycle.

If you do have any questions or concerns before any of our classes please do not hesitate to ask!
